Opis
Standing on the hilltop is the impressive Capitol building, the home of Congress since 1800 and symbol of America's democracy. The central domed part of the building (late 18C) was designed by British architect William Thornton and modelled on the Pantheon in Rome. Guided tours are the only authorised form of visit: they start at the information centre and take visitors to the building's main rooms.
