The Phillips Collection, one of the first to promote modern art in the US, maintains a choice collection of some 3 000 outstanding works by prominent American and European artists. The pieces are presented in three spaces: the residence itself, a modern wing added in 1960 (Goh Annex) and the latest extension from 2006 (Sant Building). Artists represented in the collection include El Greco, Goya, Renoir, Bonnard, Matisse, Picasso and Jacob Lawrence.
