Some 50 embassies stand on Embassy Row, generally recognisable by their flags. The most characteristic and elegant part, between 22nd Street and Massachusetts Avenue developed with Beaux Arts-style private homes in the early 20C. After 1929 many were sold to foreign governments. Note the residence of the ambassador of Chile and the Haitian Embassy at nos 2305 and 2311.
