The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which is in the form of a long, solemn black wall, is one of the nation's most cherished and moving memorials. Called simply "The Wall", it bears the names of all those killed or missing in action during the Vietnam War. Not far away, the Vietnam Women's Memorial pays homage to the female auxiliaries who served during the conflict (over 265 000).
