The former great mosque of Sofia houses the remarkable collections of the Archaeological Museum, among which stelae, epitaphs, bas-relief carvings and an exceptional set of Thracian votive stones (2C-3C). Murals, originally in the church of St. Nicholas of Melnik, are displayed on either side of the entrance to the medieval hall. However, the museum's pride and joy is the Thracian treasure of Valcitran (15-12C BCE), which consists of solid gold tableware.
