On the site of an old 17C quinta, this architectural ensemble of Gothic, Renaissance and Manueline styles was built in the early 20C by Carvalho Monteiro (1848-1920), a businessman interested in freemasonry and the esoteric. The quinta is a riot of the masonic, esoteric and mythological: Greco-Roman garden statuary, the Gruta de Leda, the Regaleira Tower and the Poço Iniciático (initiation well).
