Dominated by the massive bulk of the cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, the former Plaza de Armas, now renamed Parque Céspedes in honour of the "Father of the Country", is surrounded by some of the oldest buildings in Santiago. Busy at any time of the day or night, this square is the heart of the city.
