In the north of the country, en route towards Bolivia, you find yourself in a landscape streaked with minerals. Only a handful of remote houses remain standing. At the end of a dusty, tightly zigzagging road, you finally reach the highest road pass on the American continent and the highest point on Ruta 40: the Abra del Acay, at 4 895m.
