Originally part of the belfry which it flanks, the huge Gros Horloge clock has, since 1527, been embedded in a Renaissance arch that straddles the picturesque cobbled street after which it is named. Inside visitors will see the mechanism room, the town bells, and the single-hand hour dial. The latter is complemented by a "weekly counter", which still functions today. It is an iconic landmark and emblematic of Rouen.
