Right from the start, you will find yourself in a silent forest, strewn with giant ferns and bearded laurels with thick mossy trunks. After a 20min-walk, accompanied only by the murmuring water of the Levada da Serra do Faial, you will reach the splendid Balcões lookout point. It commands a view of Madeira's three highest peaks: from left to right, the Pico do Arieiro, das Torres and Ruivo.
