This garden symbolises the romantic ideal of oneness with nature. With its pretty planted avenues, grottoes, pool and fountains, it is an idyllic place for a stroll, picnic or nap. Below are views over Vila Nova da Gaia, the Douro and (on a clear day) the distant coast. Originally the site of the Serre (Crystal Palace), which in 1952 was replaced by a graceless sports pavilion, now a cultural, recreation and sports centre.
