Opis

This is the best known of all the mosaics in the Villa Imperiale del Casale: in a surprisingly modern scene, nine young women perform the same physical exercises in the same type of clothing that you would see in any gym or fitness studio today. Dressed in a strophium (bra top) and subligatura (type of pants), the girls lift weights, throw disks, run and train with a ball. Note the girl in a toga, who is preparing to present the victory palm and crown to one of her companions.
