Built according to the contours of the land, and seemingly trapped in time, old Pergamon straddles the slopes of the acropolis. Although simple in style, its buildings are painted in a rich palette of colours, creating narrow multi-coloured streets that in season are scented with roses and jasmine. Here, you'll also come across luxuriant gardens, carpet shops, and the scattered yet grandiose ruins of the Red Basilica, a 2C temple that is now in a state of abandon.
