Facing the Louvre ticket offices, the square is flanked by the Council of State, whose main façade by Moreau-Desproux sports trophies of arms and allegorical figures by Pajou, and by the Louvre des Antiquaires (which should house the Cartier Contemporary Art Foundation in 2024), and the façade of the Hôtel du Louvre, where Pissarro set up his easel to paint the square below and the Avenue de l'Opéra.
