Opis

Endowed in 1866 by financier George Peabody, Yale's natural history museum showcases more than 11 million specimens. In the first-floor Great Hall, you'll find the Peabody's famous collection of dinosaurs, featuring the first Stegosaurus ever mounted, the ever-popular Apatosaurus (67ft long, 35 tons), and the 10ft Archelon (75 million years old), a giant sea turtle. Spanning the Great Hall is Rudolph Zallinger's mural The Age of Reptiles, which vividly summarizes over 300 million years of animal and plant evolution. The first floor also houses a collection of mammals, primates and artifacts representing the cultures of Mesoamerica, the Plains Indians and New Guinea. Rocks and minerals, the Hall of Connecticut Birds and dioramas of North American flora and fauna can be found on the third floor. The second floor is reserved for special exhibits.
