Red Hmong women wear large folded skirts made from blue and white batik, embroidered with coral pink stitching. For these women, their hair is an ornament, which is all the more precious given that the food shortages in this isolated region have a detrimental effect on both the hair and the teeth. The women often wear wigs made from real hair. In their modest houses, the Hmong hang trophies such as hand-forged hunting rifles on the walls.
