The blue silhouette of Palacio del Junco dominates Plaza de la Vigía. Built in 1840, this neo-Classical residence houses the Museo Histórico Provincial. Objects, furniture and documents trace the history of the region from the pre-Columbian period to the revolution. A collection of tools and instruments of torture gives an interesting insight into Matanzas, a sugar and slave trade centre in the 19C.
