Opis
In summer, concerts are held in these gardens which were laid out in 1864. On the other side of the road, on the banks of the river stands Cleopatra's Needle, an Egyptian obelisk in pink granite given to George IV by Mohammed Ali. This obelisk is one of a pair: the other now stands in Central Park in New York. On its pedestal, the monument measures 21m in height (the one in New York is 23.5m and the one in Rome is 25m) and weighs 182.5t.
