This attractive square, framed by elegant residences, is situated between the churches of São Vicente de Fora and Santa Engrácia. On Tuesdays and Saturdays it is the setting for the flea market, the Feira da Ladra (thief's market). On the northern side of the square stands the 18C Lavradio Palace which houses the military court. In the centre, the small Boto Machado garden offers a haven of peace amid exotic plants and affords a fine view over the "Straw Sea" below.
