Opis
The magnificent Carolingian abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel, founded in the 8C and altered and extended over the centuries, is reached up steep, narrow streets lined with tourist shops. The visit takes you up and down a maze of corridors and staircases, according to level rather than by building or period. Since 2001, the monks and nuns have returned and ensure an ongoing spiritual presence, amidst what is a major tourist site.
