This high-altitude plateau is vast and wild, covered with snow in winter and scorched by the sun in summer, and scattered with lakes and rivers. Excursions here take place in winter and summer, starting at Karasjok and Kautokeino: in summer, you can go out on the rivers aboard a Sámi boat, or take part in a salmon-fishing expedition or hikes with dogs; in winter, when the reindeer are back, one- and two-day snowbike excursions to a Sámi camp, reindeer races and dogsledding are organised.
