The clock tower in Guînes has crowned its feudal motte since 1763, boasting 360° panoramic views over Calais and the Côte d'Opale (Opal Coast), the Flanders plain and the Bocage du Boulonnais area. The interactive museum at the foot of the tower makes for a fun family visit and looks back over the history of Guînes: the arrival of the Vikings and the construction of the feudal motte by Siegfried "the Dane" in 928, and the summit held at the Field of Cloth of Gold (Camp du Drap d'Or) in 1520.
