After flowing for 2,850km and crossing no less than ten countries, the Danube separates into major and minor branches before ending in the Black Sea. The delta, a UNESCO protected nature reserve, is home to 1,839 plant and 3,541 animal species, comprising 35 different ecosystems. Join a delta "cruise" at Tulcea to see the Sulina branch (the most visited), and the strung-out village of Crisan, bordered by reed beds, without forgetting Mila 23, a hamlet of Lipovanian fishermen.
