The 500ha Tollymore Forest Park stretches out on either side of the Shimna River, which is reputed for its salmon. You access a lane lined with majestic Himalayan cedars through a barbican gateway. Several clearly signposted walking trails through the reserve lead to an arboretum, a lake and old buildings including Clanbrassil Barn, now an information centre: with its cafeteria, picnic grounds and campsite, it is a very welcoming place for a break.
