Inaugurated in 2006, the Museu de Artes e Ofícios is the first of its kind in Brazil. It is housed in a section of the Estação Ferroviária (1924), Belo Horizonte's elegant train station, which is still in operation. The museum offers a fascinating glimpse of the pre-industrial world. The modern layout (designed by Frenchman Pierre Catel) shows the collection of tools to its best advantage and presents the techniques employed from the 18C-20C in the domains of goldsmithing, ceramics and joinery.
