Off the Jakarta coast lies the archipelago known as "Thousand Islands", which actually numbers around 340 golden sand islands of various sizes scattered about the clear waters. You can take a day trip to the densely wooded Pulau Onrust, home to the ruins of a Dutch fort; or if you stay overnight in one of the bungalows you can continue to the next islands: Pulau Kotok and Pulau Papa Theo are popular with divers and Pulau Pelangi and Pulau Putri boast immaculate beaches fringed with coconut trees.
