This traditional market, which is known to date back as far as the 17C, is extremely picturesque. Visitors will find Edam and Gouda presented with care; be able to observe the buyers tasting, comparing and bargaining over the cheese before finalising the deal; see the cheese porters (kaasdragers) at work, clothed as in olden times, wearing straw hats and taking cheese to the public weighing house, before being loaded onto the awaiting lorries.
