Created in 1774, the Friendship Fire Company lists among its volunteers statesmen, governors and presidents, including George Washington himself. The current brick-built fire station with a pretty dome was built in 1855 and restored in 1992. The building is now the property of the city and features an exhibition dedicated to fire-fighting equipment used in the 18C and 19C.
