Nikola Zrinski Square

 Well worth the diversions
Civil and military monument
  The Michelin Guide's review
The most attractive square of the lower town is remarkable for its layout and the diversity of its historicist-style edifices. It is named after Nikola Subic Zrinski (1508-1566), who chose to die rather than surrender to the Turks during the Szigetvár siege (Hungary), but is often called Zrinjevac by the locals. The meteorological column in the central square, adorned with statues, is the work of Bollé, as is the Palace of the Croatian Academy of Letters, Science and Arts (N°11).
