Pucará de Tilcara

Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions

The Michelin Guide's review
Visitors can enjoy spectacular views from this fortified village perched on a hill overlooking the valley from which it controlled the strategic Quebrada road. Once you have passed the botanical garden, home to local high-altitude species, you will come across the partly restored ruins of a pre-Inca village. This was occupied by the Tilcaras tribe from the 10C-15C approximately, then by the Incas in the 16C. Amid this rocky setting dotted with cactus, explore the restored ruins of dwellings, tombs and a sacred enclosure.
