  The Michelin Guide's review
Founded in 1879, the art museum took up residence here after the 1904 world's fair in the exposition's only remaining permanent building, the Beaux-Arts Palace of Fine Arts (1904, Cass Gilbert). The museum's global collection of more than 30,000 works runs the gamut from ancient to modern and Eastern to Western, and includes pre-Columbian, Oceanic, Medieval, Renaissance and contemporary pieces. Particularly strong in German Expressionists, the collection includes a large cache of works by Max Beckmann
