Perched on a circular hillock, the onion dome of the steeple of this church cannot be missed. Reconstruction work (the church was largely destroyed in 1991) enabled archaeologists to discover the remains of a pre-Romanesque sanctuary, built prior to the current 14C Gothic church. A small Palaeolithic necropolis was also revealed. The oldest parts of the church are in brick, visible in the east end and supported by powerful rampant arches.
