A pleasant town in the Burgas hinterland, 55km from Sofia, Karnobat is home to the church of St John Theologian (1884), built in the National Revival style and noteworthy for its wooden steeple. The interior is magnificent with a carved iconostasis and a pulpit by masters of the Debar School, depicted by a latticework of incredibly intricate plant motifs.
