This complex comprises an indoor museum (Binnenmuseum) and an open-air museum (Buitenmuseum). The Binnenmuseum, whose main focus is the region's maritime activities (fishing, navigation, trade), occupies a fine series of 17C houses and warehouses. The Buitenmuseum is a village-museum devoted to daily life in the former fishing ports of the Zuiderzee. The Kindereiland will be of particular interest to children.
